JTLS EXECUTIVE OVERVIEW ABSTRACT The Joint Theater Level Simulation (JTLS) system is an interactive, multi-sided wargaming system that models a joint and coalition force in a total air, land, and ocean warfare environment. The JTLS Executive Overview provides a general description of the programmatic history, standard hardware, software, and functional capabilities of JTLS. The JTLS system consists of six major programs and numerous smaller support programs that work together to prepare the scenario, run the game, and analyze the results. Designed as a tool for use in the development and analysis of operation plans, the model is theater-and doctrine independent and does not require a knowledge of programming. The JTLS system operates on a single computer or on multiple computers, either at a single location or at multiple distributed sites. Model features include Lanchester attrition algorithms for ground combat, detailed logistic modeling, and explicit air, ground, and naval force movement. In addition to the model itself, the JTLS system includes software designed to aid in scenario (database) preparation and verification; entering game orders; and obtaining scenario situational information from graphical map displays, messages, and status boards.
JTLS VERSION DESCRIPTION DOCUMENT ABSTRACT The Joint Theater Level Simulation (JTLS) system is an interactive, multi-sided wargaming system that models a joint coalition force air, land, and naval warfare environment. This Version Description Document (VDD) describes latest version of JTLS, and specifically addresses each significant change from the previous version. The VDD includes a list of all the documentation and the software that comprise JTLS. The latest version JTLS is a complete release that supersedes the JTLS previous Version Series. It primarily includes a significant number of code and data file changes associated with the implementation of approved Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) that result in functional enhancements. Some of these ECPs were originally scheduled for this release. Others were originally scheduled for earlier releases and subsequently reprioritized. Still others were schedule for release with later JTLS Versions and either were completed early or are still in the process of being implemented. This release also includes some code modifications that are fixes to software problems reported by users. These are tracked as Software Trouble Reports (STRs).
